Then we traveled to Erfurt where we had hoped to sleep in the same place where Martin Luther slept, the Augustinerkloster. However, the cloister had no vacant rooms and we went to plan B, which was another important site of church history. The Zinzendorfhaus (pictured above) in Neudietendorf is a conference center and guesthouse where Moravian Brethren lived in years past just outside Erfurt. Named for Count Zinzendorf, the author of "Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness", the guesthouse sits just adjacent to the church and academy of the town. For supper, we hopped the train to Erfurt where we happened upon a statue of Luther. We found out from Siegfried, who served us jaegerschnitzel and beer, that Saturday (November 10) was Martin Luther's birthday and there was going to be a cityfest. We would just miss it, but we were not able to change our plans to stay in Erfurt. We sighed, toasted the reformers, and returned to sleep at the Zinzendorfhaus.
