Today marks our five-year engagement anniversary. Maybe that's not something many couples would celebrate, but May Day--in our home--is very special. Brent spent many-a-year planning and thinking about a May Day proposal. The Lord saw fit to orchestrate our courtship to be in full bloom in the spring of 2004, so Brent was granted his desire and proposed on that May Day of 2004. He picked me up very early that morning to drive out to The Reservoir in Jackson. We sat on the back of his 4-Runner and ate the yeast rolls and honey-butter he'd prepared. There was even a thermos of hot tea! My sweetheart read a May Day story of courtship, walked me down to the shore, and proposed.
Our marriage has been one marred by sin, grief, and loss.
But it has also been one marked by joy, satisfaction, repentance, forgiveness, and love.
If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were lov'd by wife, then thee.
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole Mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay.
The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
Then while we live, in love let's so persevere.
That when we live no more, we may live ever.
