Our family headed to the old Roman town of Trier last week for their annual Christkindelmarkt. Many German towns hold a Christmas market during December, so it's fun to visit different ones and compare. Trier, however, is an old favorite. They have the BEST potato pancakes (eaten with applesauce, of course), and the town itself is full of charm. We usually eat our way through these markets, feasting on bratwursts, dampfnudeln, potato pancakes, and gluehwein (mulled red wine). This year was not a let-down. We had a crisp, clear and very cold day. We had family and friends with us. And we had an adorable little bear cub who behaved wonderfully!
